ONCE AGAIN TOO OFTEN

The pressure
scares her,
makes the voices
climb inside
her brain
where
it's impossible
to smoke
them out
She knows
she cannot risk
what happens
if they get
the upper hand

Too often,
she remembers
following the orders
even though
she knows
better than
to listen...
Better than
to let
what might
be going on
go on

  1. interesting...to not want to follow and listen because then it almost seems to become a self fulfilling prophecy...what she knows will come if she does...

  2. I know this feeling, this place and it is not a good one. Arguing with self is an exhausting experience. You describe it well.

  4. Ohhhhh. I LOVE this, Sharon:
    "Better than
    to let
    what might
    be going on
    go on"

    So familiar. Fabulous.

  6. Sharon, this is often what happens to us. We can only hope the voices tell us to do the right thing. Well done.

  7. Superb use of the words, Sharon. I appreciate your work very much. Thanks for this. (I had a problem posting comment from my Mac for some reason, otherwise you would have known this sooner!)

  9. "smoke them out" powerful line. Read it a few time. Moving.

Thank you, too, for commenting on 'Lobster Boil.'
